George R.R. Martin: Elden Ring is a 'sequel' to Dark Souls
Generator George R.R. Martin recently spoke to Chicago-focused network WTTW News, subsequently receiving an unearned doctorate from his local alma mater, Northwestern's Medill School of Journalism. It covered topics like the effect Game of Thrones has had on his life, his feelings near the half-century since he studied in the sphere and, most juicy for all of us, some inside information about his involvement with Elden Ring.
Dean Martin was asked about how varied it is functioning happening a videogame, as opposed to being a fantasy fiction writer. "Actually it's considerably antithetical," replies Martin. "I've played extraordinary videogames. I'm non a big video gamer. But the game is called the Elden Annulus and it's a subsequence to a game that came impossible few years past named Dark Souls and it came out of Nippon."
Precise to have big George VI basically substantiate what we all realised after seeing the trailer anyway: Elden Ring in truth was always conceived as the future step for Dark Souls.
"My function on IT was actually done years past: these games they'rhenium like movies, they take a long time to develop," Martin continues. "Basically they wanted a world created to set the game in, they wanted human race building as a intense factor in fantasy and skill fiction. You're not really talking about the characters and the plot, only the setting is almost Eastern Samoa important as everything else: John Ronald Reuel Tolkien's Middle Earth, Henry M. Robert E Howard's Hyborean age, the Foundation universe of discourse of Asimov...."
Elden Ring's reveal preview did leave some speculative where the Martin regulate was, to which clearly the answer will be: everywhere. That said, he's clear that he's had little involvement in developing the game subsequent to crafting the setting, with FromSoft occasionally showing him bits and pieces but otherwise steamy onward itself.
"I worked risen you know a somewhat elaborate downpla for them, then they took it from there so really information technology's been individual days since I've last seen them," says Martin. "But they would enter periodically and show me some monsters they'd configured, or the latest special effects, Beaver State the cool things, simply the game has been very slowly developing and it's orgasm out in January I believe so I'll be as thrillful Eastern Samoa everyone else to figure it."
What put up I enounce: you and Maine both, Mr Martin. While we expect, comfort yourself with this massive infodump about the game.
